Family stay
Daily activities conducted as a spouse or child being supported by someone residing under a status of residence for professors, arts, religion, journalism, highly specialized professions, management, law and accounting, medical services, research, education, technical and humanities knowledge/international services, intra-company transferees, caregiving, entertainment, skill, specified skilled worker No. 2, cultural activities, and study abroad.
Technical Humanities International Services
Activities that require expertise or knowledge in fields such as physical and engineering sciences or other natural sciences, or in fields such as law, economics, sociology, or other humanities, based on a contract, or activities that require thought or sensitivity based on foreign cultures. This includes engineers in mechanical engineering, interpreters, designers, language teachers in private companies, marketing professionals, etc.
Specific Activity
Activities specifically designated by the Minister of Justice for individual foreigners Examples include household employees of diplomats, working holidays, foreign nurse and care worker candidates under economic partnership agreements, and job hunting, etc.
Specified Skilled Worker No. 1 and No. 2
A work visa that allows employment for five years and includes the possibility of job change. The job fields are defined in 14 industries such as nursing care, accommodation, and food and beverage services.
Spouse or equivalent of a Japanese national
A person who is the spouse or special adoptee of a Japanese national, or who was born as the child of a Japanese national. Examples include a Japanese person's husband or wife, biological child, or special adoptee.
Spouse or equivalent of a permanent resident
Those born in Japan as a spouse or child of a permanent resident and who have continuously resided in Japan thereafter. Examples include spouses or children of permanent residents or special permanent residents who were born in Japan and have continued to reside there.
Settler
Persons whom the Minister of Justice permits to reside for a specified period considering special reasons, such as third-country resettlement refugees, third-generation Japanese descendants, and Japanese left behind in China.
Highly-Skilled Professional (i) (ii) (Advanced Academic Research Activities)
Activities involving research, research guidance, and education conducted through contracts with public and private institutions in Japan.
Highly Skilled Professional (i) (b) / (ii) (Advanced specialized/technical activities)
Activities engaged in by contract with public or private institutions in this country, involving knowledge or work in the fields of natural sciences or humanities.
Highly skilled professional, Category 1 & Category 2 (Advanced Business Management Activities)
Activities involving business management or engaging in administrative duties within public or private institutions in Japan.
Short stay
It is a visa to bring a spouse, husband, children, or parents to Japan for up to 90 days, and those who come to Japan under this visa are not allowed to work.
Official use
Activities as individuals engaged in the official duties of a foreign government or international organization recognized by the Government of Japan, or as family members belonging to the same household as such individuals (excluding those related to the residence status of "Diplomat").
Medical
Activities engaged in the medical practice conducted by physicians, dentists, and other legally qualified individuals. Examples include physicians, dentists, and nurses.
Nursing care
Activities involving individuals with caregiving qualifications providing care or care guidance based on contracts with public or private institutions in Japan. An example is a caregiving professional.
Skill
Activities involving skilled expertise in industries based on contracts with public or private organizations in this country, requiring proficiency in specialized fields. Examples include foreign cuisine chefs, sports instructors, aircraft pilots, and precious metal artisans.
Technical intern training
The Technical Intern Training Program was established with the aim of transferring skills, techniques, or knowledge cultivated in our country to developing regions, contributing to "human resource development" that supports the economic advancement of these developing regions.
Education
Activities involving language education and other educational activities at elementary schools, junior high schools, compulsory education schools, high schools, secondary schools, special needs schools, specialized training colleges, or miscellaneous schools, or educational institutions equivalent in terms of facilities and organization. Examples include language teachers at junior high schools, high schools, etc.
Management
Activities involving the management of trade or other businesses in Japan, or engagement in the management of such businesses (excluding activities that involve the management of businesses which require a qualification listed in the "Legal/Accounting Services" section of Appended Table I-2 of the Immigration Control Act to be legally performed). Relevant examples include executives or managers of companies.
Art
Music, art, literature, and other artistic activities involving income (excluding those related to the status of residence "entertainment"). Examples include composers, painters, and authors.
Professor
Activities involving research, research guidance, or education at a university or equivalent institution, or a college of technology in Japan, such as a university professor.
Box office
Activities related to performances, entertainment, musical performances, sports events, or other entertainment activities (excluding activities listed under the Management and Control section of Table 2 of the Immigration Control Act Schedule 1) Examples include actors, singers, dancers, professional athletes, etc.
Research
Activities engaged in conducting research based on contracts with public or private institutions in Japan (excluding activities listed under the category of "Professor" in the first table of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act). Examples include researchers from government-related agencies or private companies.
Intra-company transfer
Staff from overseas offices of public and private institutions with headquarters, branches, or other business locations in Japan who are temporarily transferred to a business location in Japan to engage in activities listed under the "Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services" category of Table 1-2 in the Immigration Control Act. An example would be a transferee from an overseas office.
Training
Activities to acquire skills, etc. conducted through acceptance by public and private institutions in Japan (excluding technical intern training No.1 of Table Two and activities listed in the "Study Abroad" section of this table) Examples include trainees.
Religion
Proselytizing and other religious activities conducted by religious figures dispatched to Japan by foreign religious organizations. Examples include missionaries sent by foreign religious organizations.
Cultural activities
Activities involving academic or artistic pursuits without accompanying income, or specialized research or learning under expert guidance on uniquely Japanese culture or arts (excluding activities listed under the study and training categories in Table One, Item Four of the Immigration Control Act). Examples include researchers of Japanese culture.
Legal and accounting services
Activities related to legal or accounting work performed by foreign licensed lawyers, certified public accountants, or other legally qualified individuals. Examples include lawyers, certified public accountants, etc.
Study abroad
Activities involving receiving education at universities, colleges of technology, high schools (including the later courses of secondary schools) or the senior departments of special needs schools, junior high schools (including the later courses of compulsory education schools and the earlier courses of secondary schools) or the middle departments of special needs schools, elementary schools (including the earlier courses of compulsory education schools) or the elementary departments of special needs schools, specialized training colleges, or miscellaneous schools, or other institutions equivalent in facilities and organization. Examples include students of universities, junior colleges, colleges of technology, high schools, junior high schools, and elementary schools.
Research (transfer)
Engagement in activities based on contracts with public or private institutions in Japan to conduct research (excluding activities listed under the professor section of the table in Appended Table 1, No. 1 of the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act), such as those involving government-related organizations or private companies.
Report
Reporting and other journalistic activities conducted under contract with foreign media organizations. Examples include reporters, photographers, etc., of foreign media organizations.
